Fable of the Mirror-Breaker — banned in Pioneer, still everywhere else

Greasefang, Okiba Boss is a 4/3 Rat Pilot for {1}{W}{B}. At the beginning of combat on your turn, you return target Vehicle card from your graveyard to the battlefield. It gains haste. At the beginning of your next end step, you return it to its owner's hand. So you're reanimating Parhelion II, Esika's Chariot, or another big vehicle, swinging for a pile of damage, then bouncing it back. The deck has been a Pioneer fixture since Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty — not always the top of the meta, but always one wrong block away from killing you. We're not here to call it tier one or tier two. Why Greasefang still shows up

Pioneer's had its share of bans and shifts. Greasefang decks typically run discard and self-mill to get a Parhelion or similar into the graveyard, then cast Greasefang and attack. The line is simple; the answer is "kill the rat or the vehicle, or die." That keeps the deck in the conversation even when other strategies take the spotlight. Paper and MTGO both see Greasefang lists in challenges and leagues. The card itself is a rare from Neon Dynasty — not a chase mythic, but the engine of a real deck.

Greasefang, Okiba Boss — Pioneer's vehicle reanimator and why the rat still races

Sheoldred, the Apocalypse did one thing and did it brutally: you draw, you gain 2 life; they draw, they lose 2. In Standard she was the card that warped the format. Every deck that could run black thought about her. Every deck that drew cards had to play around her. She’s rotated out of Standard now — but she’s still legal in Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, and Commander, and she’s still in <a href="https://edhrec.com/cards/sheoldred-the-apocalypse" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">tens of thousands of Commander decks</a>. So the price never really crashed. It just found a new floor.

What actually happened

When Dominaria United dropped, Sheoldred was the mythic everyone wanted. Four mana for a 4/5 with deathtouch and a symmetrical life swing on every draw. In Standard she dominated. Then rotation came — and instead of the usual post-rotation dump, demand from Pioneer, Modern, and Commander kept the price high. There are multiple DMU printings (main set, borderless, showcase, promos), but the standard booster version is the one most people crack and buy. So that’s the one we’re charting. The story’s simple: format-defining card leaves Standard, other formats keep wanting it. The curve below tells you the rest.

Why she still matters

The card is legitimately powerful. In any format where people draw cards — and that’s all of them — she’s a threat. In Commander she’s a staple in black decks that want to punish draw or gain life. In Pioneer and Modern she’s still a real card in the right shells. So even with Standard demand gone, Sheoldred isn’t going away. Sheoldred, the Apocalypse — the Phyrexian that ate Standard (and your wallet)

Teferi's Protection is a three-mana white instant: until your next turn your life total can't change, you gain protection from everything, and all permanents you control phase out. It was printed once in Commander 2017 — no foil in that set — and has since appeared in a handful of reprint products. Reprint history

Commander 2017 was the only standard booster-style source for years. Wizards has since put Teferi's Protection in Secret Lair products and other premium releases, which added supply but also gave collectors and foil chasers new options. The original C17 copy remains the reference for many players; nonfoil only from that set means foil demand is satisfied by later printings. The chart below reflects the C17 version. Why it matters

Why it matters

Azorius control and tempo decks in Standard and Pioneer want cheap interaction that doesn't let key spells hit the graveyard. No More Lies does both. No More Lies — Murders at Karlov Manor's Azorius staple finds a home

Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer is a one-mana 2/1 that steals the top of your library and makes a Treasure when it connects. In Modern it’s been a format-defining threat since the day it dropped in Modern Horizons 2. In Legacy they banned it. In Commander it’s in <a href="https://edhrec.com/cards/ragavan-nimble-pilferer" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">tens of thousands of decks</a>. So when Wizards gave it more printings — Multiverse Legends in March of the Dinosaurs, then Timeshifts, then even a Final Fantasy skin — you’d think the market might finally cool off. You’d be wrong.

We’re not here to defend the monkey. We’re here to report. The original MH2 version is still the one most people think of: the card that made “turn one Ragavan” a sentence that wins games. The Multiverse Legends showcase gave us a fancy alternate with different art and a halo treatment. Both have stayed expensive. Below you’ll see both printings and the charts that go with them. Why Ragavan never really got cheap

Demand is simple: the card is absurd in every format where it’s legal. Dash means you’re not just playing a 2/1 — you’re threatening to steal a card and ramp every turn. Modern aggro and tempo decks want it. Commander decks that care about combat or Treasures want it. Supply has gone up with reprints, but the play pattern is so strong that the floor has stayed high. The Legacy ban didn’t kill the card; it just moved demand to Modern and Commander. So even with Multiverse Legends and other printings, “budget Ragavan” is still a relative term.

What the two printings tell you

The MH2 version is the workhorse. It’s the one from draft boosters and the one most players associate with the card. Its price reflects that: it’s the baseline. The Multiverse Legends version is the bling — showcase frame, different art, rarer in the wild. So you get the usual split: the original is the one most people buy to play; the MUL version is the one that holds a premium for collectors and players who want the fancy copy. What we’re watching

Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer — still the monkey that stole Modern

Secret Lair Winter Superdrop 2025 — eight drops, Murktide in Arita art, and Hatsune Miku's finale

February 15, 2025 — Wizards dropped the hammer. The <a href="https://magic.wizards.com/en/banned-restricted-list" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Banned and Restricted announcement</a> that hit today is one of the biggest in recent memory. Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath is out of Historic, Pioneer, and Modern. Omnath, Locus of Creation joins him in Historic. And that's just the headline. Pioneer gets the "Oops! All Spells" package dismantled; Modern loses a handful of ramp and combo enablers. If you play any of those formats, your deck might need a second look.

Uro — the titan that wouldn't quit

Uro has been a format-defining card since Theros Beyond Death. Draw a card, gain three life, put a land into play, then do it again when you escape him. Ramp, card advantage, life gain, and inevitability in one 6/6 package. Wizards finally decided enough was enough. He's banned in Historic, Pioneer, and Modern as of today. No more Uro piles. No more "I'll just escape him again." The community's been asking for this for a while. Consider it granted.

Historic — Omnath and Uro

Historic gets a double whammy. Omnath, Locus of Creation and Uro are both banned. Omnath's landfall engine — gain four life, add mana, dome your opponents — has been a pillar of the format for ages. Four-color soup decks lose their namesake. Uro decks lose their finisher and card-advantage engine. Expect the format to open up. We're not telling you to buy or sell; we're telling you that if you had Omnath or Uro in your Historic binder, they're now Commander-only in paper and Timeless-only on Arena. Pioneer — Oops! All Spells gets the axe

Wizards targeted the "Oops! All Spells" combo in Pioneer. Balustrade Spy, Undercity Informer, Teferi, Time Raveler, Uro, and Wilderness Reclamation are all banned. The Spy and Informer enabled the mill-yourself-into-Thassa's-Oracle line that made meaningful interaction nearly impossible. Teferi and Wilderness Reclamation had their own sins. The goal: make games actually playable. If you were on that deck, sorry — time to sleeve something else.

Modern — ramp and combo cleanup

Modern loses Field of the Dead, Mystic Sanctuary, Simian Spirit Guide, Tibalt's Trickery, and Uro. Field and Uro have dominated ramp strategies. Mystic Sanctuary enabled miserable control loops. Simian Spirit Guide and Tibalt's Trickery fueled coin-flip combo decks. Wizards is clearly trying to dial back the format's speed and reduce non-games. We've seen this movie before — bans shift the meta, decks adapt, new boogeymen emerge. But for now, Modern should feel a bit more like Modern and a bit less like "who got the nut draw."

Bottom line

February 15 is a big day for format health. Uro is finally gone from the formats where he overstayed his welcome. Historic, Pioneer, and Modern all get significant shakeups. February 15 Banned and Restricted List Update — Uro out across Historic, Pioneer, and Modern

Tolarian Terror has been the backbone of Pauper's best deck since it arrived in Dominaria United. A 5/5 serpent with ward {2} that costs {1} less to cast for each instant and sorcery in your graveyard. In a format built on cantrips and cheap interaction, that means you're often casting it for one or two mana. Mono-Blue Terror has held the largest meta share in Pauper for months — ahead of Jund Wildfire, Mono Red Madness, Grixis Affinity, and Elves. Izzet and Dimir Terror variants also put up results. Why the deck works

Pauper Blue Terror fills the graveyard with cheap spells — Consider, Thought Scour, Mental Note, and the like — then deploys a threat that's hard to remove and often costs a single blue. Ward {2} means most removal costs more than the Terror did to cast. The deck pairs the serpent with card selection and countermagic; Izzet versions add burn and another angle. After the November 2025 bans, High Tide left Pauper, but the Terror shell didn't depend on it. The format's top tier still includes Mono-Blue Terror with consistent 5-0 finishes on MTGO.

What to watch

Tolarian Terror is a common. Supply is high; demand is driven by Pauper players and anyone building the deck in paper or on MTGO. The chart below shows the Dominaria United printing.
