Every drafter and box cracker hits the same wall: bulk. Commons and uncommons pile up. Most are worth pennies; some are worth a bit more. You're not going to get rich selling bulk, but you can clear space, get store credit, or turn it into something you actually want. Here's how to think about it and where to take it.

What counts as bulk?

Bulk usually means commons and uncommons (and sometimes bulk rares) that don't have meaningful single-card value. A card that's $0.10 on TCGPlayer is still "bulk" for most dealers — they're buying by the pound or the thousand, not by the single. Before you dump everything, pull anything that might be worth more than a quarter. Use Scryfall or TCGPlayer to spot uncommons and rares that see play in Commander or Pioneer; those can be worth selling as singles or trading. The rest is bulk.

Where to move bulk

Local game stores often buy bulk at a fixed rate — e.g. $3–5 per thousand commons/uncommons. Rates vary; call ahead. Some stores only want certain sets or only take bulk with a minimum quantity. Large retailers (e.g. buylists) sometimes buy bulk in huge volumes. Trading works if you find a player or store that wants to fill a set or build a cube — you trade bulk for a smaller number of higher-value cards. Donation is an option: schools, libraries, or youth programs sometimes want bulk for teaching or casual play. We're not telling you to buy or sell — we're giving you options.

Practical tips

Sort by set if the buyer wants it. Keep cards in decent condition — damaged bulk is harder to move. If you're mailing bulk, weight and shipping cost matter; local is often easier. And again: skim the good stuff first. That "bulk rare" might be a $2 Commander card. Check the list, then move the rest. May your binders stay organized and your bulk find a new home.

How to sell or trade your MTG bulk

Pioneer in early 2026 is a tale of Izzet at the top and a diverse field beneath it. Izzet Prowess and Izzet Lessons — the latter featuring Vivi Ornitier and the Lessons package from Avatar: The Last Airbender — lead the metagame on MTG Arena and in paper. Monastery Swiftspear still does the work in Prowess; Accumulate Wisdom, Firebending Lesson, and other Lessons power the alternative build. Top of the metagame

Izzet Prowess runs Monastery Swiftspear, Stormchaser's Talent, Monstrous Rage, and a pile of cheap spells. Swing with prowess creatures, pump them, close fast. Izzet Lessons swaps some of that for the Lessons package: Firebending Lesson, Iroh's Demonstration, and payoffs like Artist's Talent. Both decks share a core of red and blue cantrips and removal; the difference is whether you lean into classic prowess or the Lessons engine. On MTG Arena, Lessons has posted strong numbers; in paper and on Magic Online, Prowess and Lessons both see play.

The rest of the field

Azorius Control, Selesnya Collected Company, Greasefang variants, and black midrange (fueled by Unholy Annex and removal) all find success in Pioneer Challenges and RCQs. The format is diverse — no single deck dominates. Badgermole Cub had its moment in Standard; Pioneer has its own rhythm. Lotus Field combo, Amalia (where legal), and other strategies round out the field. If you're building for Pioneer, expect to face Izzet early and often; have a plan for prowess, Lessons, and the control and midrange decks that prey on them.

What to watch

Wizards took action in Pioneer last November; the format has improved since. We're keeping an eye on Lessons — if it continues to overperform, more attention may follow. For now, Pioneer looks healthy. May your Swiftspears connect and your counterspells resolve.

Magic sealed product has never been more varied. Whether you're drafting, chasing chase cards, or building Commander out of the box, there's a product type built for it. Here's a clear tour of what's in the box — and what makes each format worth your attention.

Play Booster boxes — the default

Every Standard set ships with Play Booster boxes. Thirty-six packs of 14 cards. Draft with them. Crack them for fun. Each pack has at least one rare or better, a guaranteed foil slot, and (in many sets) a shot at The List or other inserts. <a href="https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/collecting-lorwyn-eclipsed" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Lorwyn Eclipsed</a>, <a href="https://magic.wizards.com/en/products/duskmourn" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Duskmourn: House of Horror</a>, and <a href="https://magic.wizards.com/en/products/bloomburrow" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Bloomburrow</a> all follow this pattern. One box equals one draft pod. Street price typically lands in the $120–150 range for Standard sets. If you're buying sealed for drafting or general cracking, this is the product.

Collector Booster boxes — chase hunters only

Collector Boosters are the premium tier. Twelve packs per box, each packed with foils, extended art, alternate frames, and (in some sets) serialized cards. You're not drafting these. You're paying for variance and the chance at lottery hits. Duskmourn has serialized Abhorrent Oculus; Lorwyn Eclipsed has serialized Bitterbloom Bearer. Box prices often sit in the $200–280 band for Standard sets and higher for premium sets. Only reach for Collector boxes if you're explicitly chasing special treatments — otherwise the price per pack is hard to justify.

Bundles — entry point plus extras

Bundles give you a lighter sealed experience: typically 9 Play Boosters, 40 basic lands (often including full-art lands), a promotional card, and storage. Price sits around $45–55. Good for players who want a taste of a set without committing to a full box. Bloomburrow's Bundle included 20 full-art lands; Lorwyn Eclipsed and Duskmourn offer similar value. Not for draft — for cracking a few packs and getting a presentable box for storage.

Commander decks — ready to play

Every Standard set ships with at least one Commander deck. Preconstructed, themed to the set, with new-to-Magic cards and reprints. Lorwyn Eclipsed had four tribal decks; Duskmourn had horror-themed builds; Bloomburrow went all-in on adorable critters. Prices run $45–70 depending on the deck and contents. You open the box, sleeve up, and play. No deckbuilding required. If you want to get into Commander with minimal effort, this is the product. Chase cards like <a href="https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/commander-precon-value" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Fierce Guardianship</a> started life in precon exclusives — so some of these decks age well.

Prerelease packs — be first

Prerelease packs drop a week before the main release. Six Play Boosters, a promo card (often date-stamped), a spin-down die, and a deck box. Around $30. You build a 40-card deck and play in store events. The promo is exclusive to prerelease; some hold value. If you care about being first to play a set and want a low-stakes sealed experience, prerelease is the move.

What to watch when you crack

Sealed value is driven by chase cards. Lorwyn Eclipsed had Bloom Tender and Formidable Speaker. Duskmourn had Abhorrent Oculus and other mythics. Bloomburrow had Artist's Talent and tribal payoffs. What's in the box

The set spans every era of TMNT — original cartoon, comics, modern takes — so whether you grew up on the '80s theme song or the latest iterations, there's a version of Leo, Raph, Donnie, and Mikey for you. Wizards didn't just slap ninja typal on existing mechanics. They added:

 <li>Partner — Character select — Commander-only. Designated TMNT characters can be paired as commanders. Pizza lands and Kevin Eastman headliners

All ten basic lands are pizza-themed. Island is fish pizza, Forest is veggie-heavy, and so on. No, we're not making that up. The set also goes hard on collectibility. Original TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman illustrated six headliner cards — Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, Donatello, Shredder, and Master Splinter — with signature stamps. Those show up in Collector Boosters as borderless showcase foils and non-foils, plus serialized treatments (neon ink, gilded, sepia) in tiny runs of 100–250 copies. Early chatter has serialized Master Splinter and Leonardo already commanding serious premiums; Eastman's black-and-white line work plus neon foil is the kind of thing that makes binder collectors reach for their wallets. There's also a Secret Lair: Sewer Legends with Eastman pencils and color by Becca Carey for Donatello and Splinter. So if you're in it for the art, you've got options.

Turtle Team-Up — co-op out of the box

The headline product for casual play is Turtle Team-Up ($49.99). Up to four players each grab a 60-card hero deck (one of the four Turtles), crack four Play Boosters for more cards, then face a shared enemies deck starring Shredder and his crew. It's cooperative Magic with a scenario-style feel: beat the baddies together. No need to build decks; you open the box and go. That's a real onboarding move for kitchen-table groups and TMNT fans who've never touched Magic. Prerelease runs February 27–March 5, 2026; the main release and Magic Spotlight tournament follow March 6–8.

Grief landed in Modern Horizons 2 as the black member of the evoke Elemental cycle. Three mana, evoke for a black card from hand, target opponent reveals and discards a nonland. Simple. Brutal. It powered Scam and other black-heavy strategies in Modern until the ban. Now it's gone from Modern and Legacy, but it's still legal in Timeless and Commander. We're not calling a top or a bottom — we're laying out what Grief did, why it got hit, and where it lives now.

What Grief did in Modern

Grief plus Undying Malice, Feign Death, or Not Dead After All let you strip two cards from your opponent's hand on turn one. Evoke, the creature dies, you recur it — the enters-the-battlefield trigger fires twice. That's the Scam line. Even without the double-trigger trick, a one-mana discard spell on a 3/2 body was strong. Black decks could pressure the hand and the board in one package. Play Design eventually decided Grief enabled too many non-games; it joined the Modern ban list, and Scam had to adapt or die.

Where Grief lives now

In Timeless, Grief sees play in black-based disruption strategies. No Scam loop — Timeless has different tools — but the evoke rate and the discard still matter. In Commander, Grief is a solid piece of interaction. Evoke it to rip a key card before a combo goes off; or cast it for full price if you want the body. EDHREC ranks it in the top 6,500 commanders and includes — demand is there for 99-card slots.

Reprints and price

Grief has one printing: MH2. No Secret Lair, no Masters set yet. Supply is what it is. The ban knocked some demand, but Commander and Timeless keep the card relevant. Foil and nonfoil both move. Why Murktide defines Izzet

Izzet Murktide — the deck — runs a pile of one-mana cantrips, Ragavan, Ledger Shredder or Dragon's Rage Channeler, and a few copies of Murktide as the top end. You fill the yard, cast Murktide for cheap, and close with a 5/5 or 7/7 flyer. The card rewards playing the kinds of spells Izzet already wants: cheap, efficient, card-advantage-neutral or positive. Modern has shifted over the years, but Murktide has stayed. Boros Energy, Jeskai Blink, and other decks have had their moments; Izzet Murktide keeps showing up.

Printings and price

Murktide Regent has the original MH2 printing plus a Secret Lair. Foils from MH2 command a premium; the Secret Lair offers an alternate art. Murktide Regent — the Izzet Modern staple that refuses to quit

Urza's Saga from Modern Horizons 2 is a land that does three things: taps for colorless, creates Construct tokens that grow with your artifact count, and fetches a zero- or one-mana artifact. It's a Saga — it ticks up each turn and sacrifices after chapter three. But in that short life it tutors for Sol Ring, Shadowspear, Pithing Needle, Relic of Progenitus, or Mox Amber. What Urza's Saga does

Chapter I: tap for {C}. Chapter II: pay {2}, tap, make a 0/0 Construct that gets +1/+1 for each artifact you control. The tutor finds the right tool for the matchup. In Modern, Hammer Time uses it to find Colossus Hammer or Shadowspear. Play vs Draft — what you're really paying for

Play Booster boxes are the default for most stores and players. You get 36 packs of 14 cards, with a guaranteed rare or better in every pack and a chance at The List and other inserts. Drafting with Play Boosters is the norm for Lorwyn Eclipsed at FNM and Arena Direct events. Price per pack runs about $3.50–4.00 when you buy a box.

Draft Booster boxes, where still available, are usually $10–25 cheaper per box. You get 15-card packs tuned for draft; fewer rares per pack than Play, but a lower entry if you only care about drafting. Supply of Draft boxes has been shrinking as Wizards pushes Play Boosters, so if you want Draft-only product, check availability and price before they disappear.

February 9, 2026 — Wizards dropped the first <a href="https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/banned-and-restricted-february-9-2026" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Banned and Restricted announcement</a> of the year. Paper formats got a pass: Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, Vintage, and Pauper all see no changes. The action is on Arena. Historic gets four bans and seven unbans. Timeless restricts Necropotence. Alchemy gets 13 card rebalances. If you play digital, your deck might need a second look.

Historic — four out, seven back in

Banned: Eldrazi Temple, Ajani, Nacatl Pariah, Crop Rotation, Scholar of the Lost Trove. Play Design cited Eldrazi as the dominant high-rank strategy, powered by Temple and Ugin's Labyrinth; they banned Temple to keep Eldrazi playable without pushing out slower decks. Boros Energy lost Ajani. Crop Rotation enabled too much consistency for combo. And the Persist-into-Scholar line — reanimating Scholar of the Lost Trove as early as turn two and ending the game — was the most popular deck to reach Mythic in Best-of-One Historic. So Scholar is gone.

Unbanned: Magus of the Moon, Harbinger of the Seas, Force of Vigor, Force of Negation, Endurance, Wilderness Reclamation, Agent of Treachery. Historic has shifted toward higher power and more interaction; the format's early "no free spells, no land lock" philosophy is being relaxed so that answers can keep up. Expect more diversity and more games that don't end on turn two.

Timeless — Necropotence restricted

One change: Necropotence is now restricted. The classic black enchantment that lets you pay life to stock your hand was too dominant in Timeless. One copy still allows the archetype; multiples were warping the format. So you get one. We're not calling a top or a bottom on the card's price — it's a Commander staple regardless. Alchemy — 13 rebalances

Thirteen digital cards were rebalanced. The headliners: Kona, Rescue Beastie and Val, Marooned Surveyor got nerfed. Kona plus Omniscience was setting a turn-four (sometimes turn-three) deadline in Best-of-One Alchemy; Kona's mana cost went up. Val plus Trelasarra, Moon Dancer was the top creature combo in Historic; Val's cost went from two to four and the damage trigger was bumped to 2 per opponent (from 1) so she stays relevant in Brawl while dropping out of optimized Historic. The rest of the changes are a mix of buffs and tweaks: Dazzling Flameweaver, Marshland Hordemaster, Charged Conjuration, Tempest Trapper, Sanguine Soothsayer, Polterheist, Valiant Emberkin, Ethrimik Imagined Friend, Network Marauder, Prototype X-8, Sliver Weftwinder. Standard, Pioneer, Modern — no changes

Standard is in a good place. Pro Tour Lorwyn Eclipsed had a Top 8 with seven different decks; Badgermole Cub is big but posted below 50% non-mirror win rate on Day One. Pioneer and Modern also see no changes. Legacy's Dimir Tempo is the top dog but within bounds. Vintage and Pauper are unchanged. So: paper stays as is; Arena gets the shakeup. Banned and Restricted February 9, 2026 — Historic hits, Timeless Necropotence, Alchemy rebalances

Lorwyn Eclipsed landed in late January 2026 — a full return to the plane of Lorwyn and Shadowmoor, with Kithkin, Merfolk, Giants, Faeries, and the sun-and-moon flip between the two worlds. The set is 408 cards, legal in Standard, Pioneer, Modern, and Commander. Wizards packed in reversible shock lands (Lorwyn on one side, Shadowmoor on the other), a 20-card Special Guests bonus sheet with woodcut-style reprints, and a pile of reprints and new designs that had players and the secondary market paying attention from day one.

We’re not here to review every card. We’re here to give you a long look at the set through four cards that actually move the needle: the reprint everyone was waiting for, the Worlds championship card, the tribal engine that’s become a chase mythic, and the flexible elemental that’s finding homes in multiple formats. What makes Lorwyn Eclipsed matter

Lorwyn and Shadowmoor were beloved for their tribes and their flavor. ECL brings that back with a twist: the plane’s duality is baked into the product. Draft and Standard get a shot of tribal and multicolor, and reprint hunters got some of the cards they’d been asking for for years. <a href="https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/collecting-lorwyn-eclipsed" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Wizards’ own collecting guide</a> highlights the reversible shock lands, the Special Guests sheet (Bitterblossom, Goblin Sharpshooter, and others in woodcut art), and serialized Bitterbloom Bearer in Collector Boosters. So there’s something for drafters, Commander players, and collectors. Our job is to zoom in on a few cards that are both important to the set and interesting on the price chart.

1. Bloom Tender — the reprint that had to happen

If you’ve been reading the Gazette, you already know we covered Bloom Tender when ECL dropped. It’s worth repeating here: this was the “reprint when?” card. A 1/1 Elf for {1}{G} that taps for mana of each color among your permanents. Commander players have wanted it forever. The original from Eventide (2008) and the Special Guests printing had kept the price high. Lorwyn Eclipsed finally put a standard booster version into the world — Nils Hamm art, no gimmicks, mythic in the set. Supply went up; the market reacted. The ECL copy is the one most people are opening and buying to play. Below you’ll see a chart for the Lorwyn Eclipsed printing. 2. Formidable Speaker — the Worlds card

Formidable Speaker is the championship card for Jean-Emmanuel Depraz, World Champion XXIX. It’s a 2/4 Elf Druid for {2}{G} that does two things: when it enters you may discard a card to tutor a creature into your hand, and for {1} and a tap it untaps another target permanent. So it’s a body, a potential <a href="https://edhrec.com/cards/formidable-speaker" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Commander</a> value piece, and a combo enabler (untap a mana dork or a land). The flavor text says it all: “Jean-Emmanuel Depraz, World Champion XXIX.” That kind of pedigree plus real utility means the card was a chase rare from the start. It’s not a reprint — it’s new to ECL — and the price has been strong. If you’re into competitive play or just want a copy of the Worlds card, the chart below shows you where the market has settled. 3. Chronicle of Victory — tribal payoff

Chronicle of Victory is a six-mana legendary artifact. As it enters you choose a creature type. From then on, creatures you control of that type get +2/+2, first strike, and trample — and whenever you cast a spell of the chosen type, you draw a card. So it’s a tribal lord and a card-advantage engine in one. In Commander it’s the kind of card that goes into any deck that’s heavily committed to a tribe: Elves, Merfolk, Giants, whatever ECL and your collection support. It’s been compared to Vanquisher’s Banner with extra upside. As a mythic in a set that’s all about tribes, it was bound to be one of the chase cards. The chart below is for the ECL printing. If you’re building tribal in Standard or Commander, this is one to watch — and the curve will show you whether the market is still discovering it or has already priced it in.

4. Wistfulness — the flexible elemental

Wistfulness is a 6/5 Elemental Incarnation for {3}{G/U}{G/U}. It has two enters-the-battlefield effects: if you paid {G}{G}, exile target artifact or enchantment an opponent controls; if you paid {U}{U}, draw two cards then discard one. It also has evoke {G/U}{G/U}, so you can cast it for the evoke cost, get one of the two effects, and sacrifice it. That makes it a flexible tool in Simic decks — a body when you need one, or a one-shot answer or card draw when you don’t. In Standard and Pioneer it’s been finding homes in midrange and ramp shells. In Commander it’s a solid value creature with a relevant body. As one of the elemental incarnation cycle in ECL, it’s been one of the set’s pricier mythics. The chart below is for the ECL version. Conclusion
