BT-01: Booster New Evolution was the first main booster set for the Digimon Card Game. It introduced the evolution system, the memory gauge, and the core mechanics. Key cards in BT-01

Agumon (BT1-010) — the Rookie that finds Tamers. Greymon, MetalGreymon, WarGreymon — the evolution line. Omnimon (BT1-084) — the DNA finisher. Tai Kamiya and other Tamers. Sealed and singles

Product lineup

Bandai's Digimon TCG uses a familiar pattern: main booster sets (BT-xx) and Extra Boosters (EX-xx). Time Stranger is a main set; Dawn of Liberator is an Extra Booster — typically smaller, with targeted support for existing archetypes or new mechanics. The "Liberator" theme is Bandai's current story arc — new characters, new Digimon, and product designed around that narrative. Dawn of Liberator and the Debuggers Set feed into it. Digimon Card Game — Time Stranger and Dawn of Liberator hit shelves

If Agumon and the Greymon line are the spine of Red in the Digimon Card Game, Gabumon and the Garurumon line are the spine of Blue. From BT-01 onward, Gabumon has been the Rookie that leads into Garurumon, WereGarurumon, MetalGarurumon, and Omnimon (when you fuse with the Greymon side). Why the Garurumon line defines Blue

Gabumon in BT-01 and later sets typically offers draw, search, or setup. Garurumon and the rest of the line bring aggression and evolution payoffs. Blue's identity — draw power, bouncing, and evasive attacks — fits the Garurumon theme. When you need a Blue Rookie that scales into a finisher, Gabumon is the default. Omnimon (BT1-084) is the fusion of WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon; it's the capstone that both Red and Blue players know. Newer sets have added more Gabumon and Garurumon variants; the line gets support in almost every booster.

Gabumon and the Garurumon line — Blue's answer to Red's Greymon

Omnimon is the fusion of WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon — the iconic DNA digivolution that closes the Agumon and Gabumon lines. It first appeared in BT-01: Booster New Evolution and has since been printed in BT-05, BT-13, BT-17, BT-22, and other sets. Omnimon across the sets

BT-01 Omnimon — When digivolving, choose an opponent's Digimon and delete all of their Digimon with that name. When attacking, return a level 6 from underneath to hand to unsuspend. Classic finisher. BT-05 Omnimon — Blitz, unsuspend on digivolve, and protection by trashing a level 6 from underneath. BT-17 Omnimon ACE — Blast DNA Digivolve from hand, Raid, Blocker, and a mass bounce-plus-delete on DNA digivolve. Newer sets keep adding tools.

Collecting and play

Red and Blue (or Red/Black, Red/White) decks that run the Greymon and Garurumon lines want Omnimon as a finisher. Alternate arts and SEC printings command premiums. Digimon Card Game has several entry points: starter decks, structure decks, and special products like the Tamer's Evolution Box. Starter decks

Starter decks are pre-built 50-card decks (plus a few extras) focused on a single color or theme. They include a mix of Digimon, Tamers, and Option cards. Two players can buy two starters and play out of the box. They're designed for learning — not for competitive play — but they're a low-cost way to understand the rules and mechanics.

Structure decks and special products

Structure decks offer a more complete 50-card core, often with new cards and reprints. Booster boxes

Digimon starter decks and entry products — how to get into the game

Agumon from BT-01: Booster New Evolution was one of the first Rookie Digimon in the Digimon Card Game. Reveal the top five, add a Tamer, put the rest back. Simple, effective, and the start of a line that's been supported in almost every set since. Greymon, MetalGreymon, WarGreymon, Omnimon — the evolution chain is the spine of Red. If you play Digimon, you've probably seen this line. If you collect, you've seen the alternate arts and secret rares.

Why the Greymon line still defines Red

Agumon BT1-010 sets up Tamers. Tamers enable effects, reduce costs, and push the board forward. From there, the line evolves: Greymon for power, MetalGreymon for removal or pressure, WarGreymon or Omnimon to close. Newer sets have added Agumons in other colors — Yellow, Green, Black — and alternate evolutions like ShineGreymon. The core stays: Agumon finds what you need, and the line punishes opponents who can't keep up.
