Pokémon 151 landed in 2023 as a special set celebrating the original Kanto Pokémon. It's not part of the main Scarlet & Violet booster lineup — it's a standalone product with its own booster packs, ETB, and UPC. The set includes the full 151, plus full arts, illustration rares, and special illustration rares. Product types

Chase cards

Why Eeveelutions matter in the TCG

Eevee's gimmick is evolution choice: one Basic that can become multiple different Stage 1s. The TCG has used that for search effects (e.g. "search your deck for an Eevee evolution"), type coverage (different Eeveelutions for different Energy), and collector chase. Sets like Evolving Skies and Shining Fates pushed Eevee and the evolutions hard; Umbreon and Sylveon in particular drive sealed value and singles prices. Playable Eeveelution lines tend to show up in Expanded and in casual builds; collectors chase alternate arts, promos, and the full evolution set.

Collecting the line

Full Eeveelution sets span dozens of printings. Vintage Eevee and the original three evolutions (Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon) from Jungle and earlier sets carry a premium. Modern chase cards include Umbreon VMAX and Sylveon VMAX from Evolving Skies — alternate arts and Secret Rares command high prices. If you're building a binder or a display, pick a scope: one of each evolution, one per set, or only the playable versions. Evolving Skies booster boxes remain expensive in part because of the Eeveelution chase.

Play and format relevance

Standard rotation limits which Eeveelutions are legal. When Eevee-based decks are good, they usually rely on a specific evolution (e.g. Umbreon or Sylveon) with support from the current set pool. Key Pikachu categories

Vintage and early sets. Base Set Pikachu (illustration by Mitsuhiro Arita) is the original. Shadowless and first edition command premiums. Jungle, Fossil, and other early sets have their own Pikachu printings. Condition matters enormously for vintage — PSA 10s and BGS 9.5s are the chase grades.

Promos. Pokémon has released dozens of Pikachu promos: movie tie-ins, tournament prizes, special collections. The Pikachu Illustrator card — given to contest winners in 1998 — is one of the rarest and most expensive cards in the game. More accessible promos still move based on scarcity and art.

Modern chase. Scarlet & Violet and Sword & Shield era Pikachu cards include full arts, illustration rares, and special art promos. VMAX, VSTAR, and ex versions exist. Character popularity drives demand; print runs affect supply.

What drives Pikachu value

Rarity, condition, art, and nostalgia. A beaten-up Base Set Pikachu is cheap; a PSA 10 is not. Promos with low print runs or unique art command more. Modern Pikachu cards move with set releases and reprints. If you're collecting, decide your focus: vintage, promos, or modern chase. Pokémon Standard rotates once a year. The 2025–26 season runs from April 11, 2025 to April 10, 2026. Cards with the F regulation mark (from Sword & Shield era) rotated out at the start of the season. Cards with G, H, I, or later marks remain legal. If you play Standard, your deck has to pass the rotation check. If you collect or trade, rotation affects which cards hold value and which tank. How rotation works

Each card has a regulation mark (a letter in a small stamp). When a new season starts, the oldest legal mark rotates. F is gone; G and newer stay. That means Sword & Shield Base, Rebel Clash, Vivid Voltage, Shining Fates, Battle Styles, Chilling Reign, Evolving Skies, and other F-mark sets are out. Scarlet & Violet onward (G, H, I) are in. Lost Origin, Silver Tempest, and other late Sword & Shield sets with G marks stayed for 2025–26.

What rotation does to prices

Cards that see Standard play and rotate out often drop — demand shifts to Expanded (where they're still legal) or casual play. Cards that stay legal and see heavy play can hold or rise. Staples from rotating sets that have no Expanded demand can crater. If you're sitting on F-mark cards, check whether they see Expanded play before assuming they'll hold.

What to watch

The next rotation will hit G-mark cards when the 2026–27 season begins (typically April 2026). That will remove more Sword & Shield era and early Scarlet & Violet. Why Charizard ex still drives the set

Charizard has been the face of Pokémon since 1999. Every era gets its Charizard, and Scarlet & Violet's Obsidian Flames gave us a Charizard ex with a powerful ability and a place in Fire decks. The card sees play in Standard (where rotation permits) and remains a binder trophy for collectors. Obsidian Flames booster boxes, ETBs, and singles all trade with Charizard ex as the anchor. When you crack a box, you're hoping for that 223 slot. When you buy singles, you're paying for play demand and collector demand combined.

Play vs collect

In Standard, Charizard ex fits Fire archetypes that capitalize on its Inferno Tail attack and Roaring Resolve ability. Rotation will eventually move it to Expanded; until then, play demand supports the card. Key cards driving demand

The set features Terapagos ex, Cinderace ex, Lapras ex, and Galvantula ex, among others. Terapagos has been a chase since announcement — the Stellar type and its role in the anime push both play and collector interest. ACE SPEC cards continue to matter for deck construction; one per deck means scarcity matters for competitive play. Enamorus, the Paradox Pokémon, and other meta-relevant picks will move with tournament results. Keep an eye on the 2025–26 Standard format: rotation (G, H, I regulation marks) affects which cards stay legal and which see a last hurrah.

Booster boxes give you 36 shots at chase cards and secret rares. ETBs are cheaper per unit but fewer packs; good if you want the accessories. Singles remain the most efficient path if you need specific cards for a deck. For collecting, sealed tends to hold or appreciate if the set stays popular; for play, singles are almost always cheaper than cracking to find what you need.
