Lorcana draft and sealed play — what to expect
Lorcana supports more than constructed play. Draft and sealed events use booster packs to build a deck on the spot: you open packs, pick cards, and play. If you've only ever played with a prebuilt or netdecked list, draft and sealed are a great way to see the game from a different angle. Here's what to expect and how to prepare.
How Lorcana draft works
In draft, players sit in a pod and open three booster packs one at a time. For each pack, you pick one card and pass the rest. By the end, you've chosen 45 cards and build a 40-card deck (plus ink). You need to balance characters, actions, and songs — and stay in two inks (or one) so your deck actually casts spells. Draft rewards knowing the set: which cards are strong in limited, which support which ink, and how to close games with a smaller card pool.
Sealed play
In sealed, each player gets a fixed number of packs (often six), opens them all, and builds a 40-card deck from that pool. No passing — you're on your own. Sealed is easier to run at stores because it doesn't require a pod structure. Your card pool is random, so you work with what you get. Same idea as draft: two inks (or one), enough characters and removal, and a plan to win before you run out of gas.
What to bring and what to expect
Bring sleeves (often 40+ for the deck), a way to track lore (dice or a notepad), and a positive attitude. Stores may provide basic lands/ink if needed — check with the organizer. Prizes vary: more packs, promos, or store credit. We're not telling you to buy or sell — we're giving you the lowdown. Try a draft or sealed event once; you might find you prefer building on the fly. May your ink run true.
